The growth of cyanobacteria and green algae is a worldwide problem caused by high levels of nutrients - organic matter, nitrogen and phosphorus - in water bodies. The origin of the nutrients is mostly anthropogenic, with nitrogen coming from fertilisers and phosphorus from e.g. washing powders etc. The cyanobacteria and the toxins in their cells cause unpleasant allergic reactions or eczema in humans, the toxins affect fish and other aquatic organisms, and domestic animals are also at risk. The cyanobacterial content of reservoirs used as a source of drinking water causes problems at water treatment plants, and the water often has unfavourable organoleptic properties, a strong smell or an unpleasant and difficult-to-remove aftertaste.

Velký Kal Reservoir
Phosphorus precipitation that we applied, drastically improved the water quality in the Velký Kal reservoir in 2021.
