We offer a safe, environmentally friendly and cost-effective way to combat cyanobacteria and green algae.
Cyanobacteria and green algae negatively affect water quality and limit the possibilities of using water reservoirs. The action of Photon Water’s AlgawaySONO™ ultrasonic technology suppresses their reproduction and further development in the water column at a rate acceptable for bathing waters. We provide the system on the basis of a service contract.
When this method is applied, one or more transmitters are placed on the water surface, which emit the AlgawaySONO™ low-power ultrasonic signal. The transmitters send short pulses into the water, with a frequency range that has been adjusted so that it only damages specific parts of the bodies of cellular organisms.
In the case of cyanobacteria, the technology attacks the walls of gas vesicles (aerotopes) by repeatedly sending ultrasonic pulses that gradually rupture them. The gas leak causes a loss of buoyancy, and the cells sink to the bottom of the reservoir, where the lack of light slows down their growth and stops reproduction completely. It is important to conduct an initial analysis of the cyanobacterial species present in the reservoir because in the case of species that do not have gas vesicles, the effectiveness of the method is limited.
In green algae, the ultrasonic waves reduce nutrient uptake and excretion through the cell wall by damaging the vacuoles of the cells. The application of ultrasonic resonance vibration gradually leads to damage to the plasma membrane, a loss of vital functions and ultimately death.
The application of ultrasound suppresses the growth of cyanobacteria and algae, thus promoting suitable conditions for organisms that compete with them. When cyanobacteria are eliminated with ultrasound, no toxins are released into the water. The technology has repeatedly been proven safe for fish and other aquatic organisms.
Environmentally friendly technology
No by-products are produced
Mechanically disrupting cyanobacteria does not result in the release of toxins into the environment
Requires no chemicals or additives
Also suitable for large bodies of water
Biofilms in which a significant amount of bacteria have formed can be significantly reduced or completely eliminated
The complete operation is covered by a service contract concluded for the entire season

Photon Water’s AlgawaySONO™ technology takes the form of autonomous floats. Each float carries solar panels that provide power to the entire system.
A Quattro-DB submersible ultrasonic transmitter is suspended beneath the float, which spreads the ultrasonic signal in four directions, creating a circular area of coverage.
The transmitter has a power of 12–50 W and works stably at 1582 different frequencies in the range of 24–58 kHz and 195–205 kHz. The area of its influence on green algae and diatoms has a diameter of approximately 300 metres, while the area of influence on cyanobacteria has a diameter of 800 metres. This makes the technology suitable for large reservoirs, lakes, water supply facilities and so on.
